Advice to New Interns

1. Always ask questions: Don't wait for someone to directly address your question. But don't overload your supervisor with too many unnecessary questions!
2. Dress accordingly: Follow the basic attire of the employees unless your supervisor notes otherwise. Wear closed-toed shoes! Flip flops are unprofessional and may interfere with your safety.
3. Communicate with your supervisor about any questions or concerns: Don't rely on your supervisor to contact you. Keep in touch by phone or e-mail. It is your responsibility to make it as easy as possible for your supervisor. When you give him or her your contact information, make sure you check regularly for their response.
4. Stay on time: Arrive a few minutes early for your internship, interview, etc.. Better early than late.
5. Act professionally: No matter how casual the workplace may be, you should always act mature and professional. Not only are you trying to learn, but you're trying to impress your supervisor(s). They may be your future boss.
